NOTD: IsaDora Chrome Nail Powder
IsaDora Chrome Nail Powder and Top Coat
Review and Swatches
I've been waiting for the IsaDora Chrome Powder to hit FeelUnique for a while now, and it's finally here! A non-gel nails powder that promises a 'unique silver mirror effect', with a special water-based topcoat that doesn't need a UV light.
You first apply one coat of regular nail polish. They recommend the Isadora Wonder Nail polishes, but I used one coat of Essie Stones N' Roses and it worked fine. Let the nail polish dry for 2-3 minutes (do one hand at a time!). Then pick up some of the chrome powder from the lid on your finger, and rub it onto each nail.
It's amazing to watch the powder mesh together into a chrome finish, so it's easy to get distracted and miss a corner or an edge! Next time I'll try and use a bit more powder to get a more consistent finish, and remember the tips.
Follow with a coat of the Chrome Nails Fixing Top Coat, which comes in a bottle half the size of a normal nail polish/top coat. The top coat feels quite thin, and leaves the nails feeling like there's nothing there. Without the top coat, however, the powder would just wash off.
The end result is something to be seen! It's very space-age. My coat of pinky/coral polish underneath hasn't done much to change the silver powder colour. I think you would need a very bright polish to change the final colour - Jane at BritishBeautyBlogger has a great post showing the subtle differences.
I love this - it's fun to put on, it looks amazing and it's great not having the inevitable brush-strokes you get with normal chrome polishes. I can't wait to try some brighter colours underneath to see the effect. I will also try using a base coat and see if it works, to smooth out any ridges on the nail which the chrome finish emphasises.
Wear-time isn't great; I applied the powder last night and today I have one chip and significant tip-wear to the nail polish underneath! Perhaps one to put on for a special occasion, rather than for the week.
